We are in Nashville now and we’ve got 4 shows left! Last night we played in Macon, Georgia to the staff of the Mellow Mushroom. We still managed to sell a couple of CDs and get paid. We also got fed. We decided to drive all night to Nashville which was supposed to be an easy five hours. I pulled into a rest area about 100 miles outside of Nashville for us to sleep but it was too hot to sleep so around 7:00 I decided to drive again. I noticed the front left tire was really low so we stopped at the first gas station. I filled it up again and then David found the nail that was in the tire. I bought a Red Bull and David and I changed the tire. It wasn’t as miserable as you might think. It was kinda fun in a weird way. We still haven’t slept and I don’t know when we will since we load in to the club in a little over five hours. I’m surprisingly awake right now but I’m sure I’ll crash later…probably on stage.

I played with Afternoon Naps a couple of nights ago at the Athens Popfest and it was a good time. I was kinda bummed that I couldn’t get the guys from my band into the show. Greg decided to pay the 12 dollar cover. I was worried that I would make mistakes since I haven’t played with Naps for over a month but everything went pretty smoothly. I dropped a stick at the end of the set and had no spares so I did the Rick Allen ending. Other highlights include walking to Starbucks and then having it rain pretty heavily. Greg asked a delivery guy if we could have his empty boxes. Mike Allan, Greg and I walked several blocks with cardboard on our heads for umbrellas. The Naps were nice enough to share their motel room with us.

I’m going to let the other guys share tour stories, etc. So look for those soon!

Yesterday we went to Las Vegas. I spent most of my time at the Blackjack table trying to recreate my experience in Detroit but it never happened for me. I was only going to gamble a hundred bucks but ended up dipping into a second hundred. I got down to about 25 bucks and thought about cashing in to have a little money for gas but I couldn’t do it and I’m glad I didn’t. Around 6:30 a.m. my luck started changing and the table got hot. Everyone was winning. I got up to about 300 bucks and put two 100 dollar chips in my pocket. I lost everything else and felt pretty good about not losing the 200 I started with. We did spend money on gas, food and hotel but it was all worth it. It was a lot of fun and the first Vegas experience for everyone in the band except me.

We drove to San Diego yesterday afternoon where we thought we had two shows booked. We got to the Beauty Bar at about 6:15 and found out that they don’t usually open until 9 so we waited around. I slept in the van so the wait went really fast for me. Next thing I remember is hearing Greg make calls for last minute shows and then being at a beach where the guys made a fire. It looked like fun but I was too tired and decided to keep sleeping.

We have a show tonight in San Diego which should be good. It’s nice to have the afternoon free. We slept in a Wal Mart parking lot last night. Nothing makes me feel more like a rockstar than waking up and brushing my teeth in the Wal Mart bathroom. We found a Starbucks within walking distance so that’s what we’re doing this afternoon.

Tonight we played in Santa Monica. I wasn’t sure what to expect since three out of four of us woke up with colds, but it turned out to be an amazing show! There were some Bears fans at the show and they bought lots of merch and were super friendly. The band that played after us was an industrial goth type band. A perfect fit for us. Mismatched bills seems to be a common theme this tour. Either way, I was definitely entertained.

Earlier today we had some time to go to the beach and pier. There was some Fox event and I’m pretty sure I saw some celebrities but I couldn’t tell you most of their names since I don’t watch a lot of shows. I saw Rainn Wilson and John Voit to name a couple.

Last night we played a BBQ place and did another acoustic show. They did a webcast of the show and apparently had a record breaking number of people watching at 230. It was a strange experience and they made us a DVD of the show. After the show we played some darts and pool and then camped out in the parking lot. We’ve been spending more nights in the van and taking less showers than I thought we would.

I think we are going to drive to Vegas tonight and try to increase the band fund with a little Blackjack. It worked in Detroit. Hopefully we’ll have some money to get a motel and get some rest and showers.

Greetings from the Port Townsend Safeway Food and Drug Store! I was hoping to write a blog every day but with the long drives and limited internet access it has been very difficult…which is why this one is coming to you on day 9.

So far the tour has been amazing! We’ve had good shows, met interesting people, and had beautiful drives. We’ve also had some challenges which have only made the experience more interesting.

Speaking of interesting, I am on day 5 with no shower. Maybe that’s not interesting, maybe it’s more disgusting. We were going to get a motel last night to take showers and relax but all the hotels/motels in Port Townsend close their offices by 9 or 10 so we got to spend another night in the van after driving 25 hours over the last couple of days.

The show went well last night. We decided to do an acoustic show. It was at a coffee shop called The Boiler Room. I was happy to not have to set up drums or a PA. I only had a shaker and tambourine and people still danced. We got to take a ferry ride from Seattle to Port Townsend. It was a lot of fun and I wish it lasted longer than a half an hour.

I was worried when we booked this tour that we might not be playing the right places for our type of music but I’ve been enjoying the places we’ve played. We’ve played at coffee shops, sports bars, and clubs and I like the variety of people we’ve played with/met.

Jeremy has been keeping a journal of the shows so I will try to post a recap of the past 9 shows soon. Stay tuned for all the juicy details! In the meantime enjoy the pics and video of the guy who says my name the way everyone should. Craaaiiiig Raaaaamsayy. MOV03291
